Ragtime Guitar is an Artform largely performed and recorded in an underground fashion. An esoteric approach to the Acoustic Guitar. Today, Ragtime Guitar is somewhat unknown. Yes, many guitarists, who have pursued the study and exercise of fingerpicking (also known as fingerstyle guitar), know of and probably even know a few pieces of ragtime music. Even though this genre was once somewhat mainstream music in its time, today, there are very few who are familiar with this unique and delicate approach to the Acoustic Guitar. Rock, Jazz, Bluegrass, Blues are all well-recognized by the average music listener ... however, you mention Ragtime Guitar, and it literally creates a perplexed facial expression and a response of, "Oh, is that like ragtime piano played on guitar?" And, sure, their estimation is partly correct.

Only, as we Ragtime Guitar music proponents are aware, Ragtime Guitar really has made a stand on its own and came into its own existence through styles and songs specifically written on guitar ... Artists such as Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Blake, Mississippi John Hurt, Reverend Gary Davis, amongst others have all written Ragtime Guitar pieces that were not piano interpretations nor even necessarily influenced from listening to pianists.

Many of these pieces hold the stature of timeless Classical Music ... and, today, these artists were held in such high esteem as to influence and carry forward through contemporary artists whom have dedicated themselves to the art of Ragtime Guitar — Jorma Kaukonen, Stefan Grossman, Duck Baker, David Laibman, Peter Lang to name only a few ... Keep in mind, Ragtime Guitar has many facets and subtle overtones that cross over to Jazz and Blues. Ragtime itself is considered the roots of Jazz. Many Ragtime turnarounds and chordal passages can be heard throughout the Jazz stylings of yesteryear and today. So much has gone undocumented within this realm of playing ... there's an endless catalog of tunes; with its vast history and players, there's so much to learn about Ragtime Guitar. Hence, this site will be dedicated to this artform ... and hopefully will grow into an endless resource on all there is to appreciate, learn, experience, and embrace in this wondrous approach to the Acoustic Guitar.
