Ragtime Guitar Video Samplers
"Wheels"
arr. by Mickey Cochran

This one's very fun to play. This particular arrangement is in open G tuning. (from low to high: D-G-D-G-B-D) This arrangement demonstrates some interesting fingerstyle guitar techniques such as the melodic/chromatic runs at the beginning and end. It also has a moving bass line at the beginning of the melody.

This tune will be tabbed out and placed in our online lessons section.

With a solid foundation in Ragtime Guitar, tunes like this are far easier to execute. Although, you wouldn't classify this tune as a straight-ahead Ragtime Guitar piece, it has many elements you'd expect to hear in Ragtime ... such as the walking bass lines, the alternating bass lines and the cascading pianistic runs played in a crosspicking guitar fashion. To learn more about crosspicking guitar, be sure to check out our Crosspicking Guitar online lessons or the book: "Crosspicking Guitar Techniques" (although commonly played with a flatpick, crosspicking guitar can also be effectively played in a fingerstyle approach).
