Ragtime Guitar Video Samplers
"Silent Spring"
by Mickey Cochran

An original piece in 3/4 time written in the key of A ... influenced by Marcel Dadi, as can be heard in the opening, this song is a tribute to him. Marcel Dadi will forever be by my side musically for his influence in my playing permeates so much of what I write and arrange today. His first instructional albums, "The Guitar of Dadi" and "Dadi's Folks" had many great tunes that followed a Ragtime feel. I learned every last one of them during my early guitar studies. The enclosed tune will soon be released on the "6 & 12-String Drawings from the Acoustic Forest".

This tune will be tabbed out and placed in our online lessons section.

Marcel Dadi (August 20, 1951–July 17, 1996) was a French guitarist known for his fingerpicking style which faithfully recreated the instrumental styles of American guitarists such as Chet Atkins, Merle Travis and Jerry Reed. He became a personal friend of country star Chet Atkins.

Dadi released several LPs and some instructional videos before his early death. His recordings featured a mix of compositions by his American heroes and original compositions of his own in a similar style. A feature of his early LPs was that they included a tablature booklet, allowing guitarists to learn the tunes for themselves. Dadi often recorded tunes dedicated to his friends, such as "Roger Chesterfield," dedicated to Roger C. Field with whom he first went to Nashville in 1975 to visit Chet Atkins.

Dadi died when N93119, the Boeing 747 on TWA Flight 800, exploded off the coast of Long Island. He was returning from the United States to France after being honored at Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame. He is buried in Jerusalem, Israel. (wikipedia)
